Blair Crew is a growing Montgomery County, Maryland club team based at Bladensburg Waterfront Boathouse on the Anacostia River. We are members of the Washington Metropolitan Interscholastic Rowing Association (WMIRA)
Qualifications:
All levels of expertise are welcome to apply. Preferred minimum qualifications are 1-2 yrs prior coaching experience, 2 yrs experience rowing or coxing sweep competitively, Level 1-2 US Rowing Certification, First Aid/CPR Certification, and a Maryland Boating Certification. Must pass background check since will be working with youth (Blair Crew will pay and support training for these certifications and background check).

COACH/ASSISTANT COACH POSITION
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience as a competitive rower or coxswain
- Experience working with teen athletes
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Basic CPR and water safety skills and/or coaching certificate from USRowing
- Knowledge of boat maintenance, repair, and regatta logistics
- Clean background check
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Coaches work with team captains and coxswains to foster an inclusive and engaged team culture. Plan and run water and land workouts. Communicate regularly with the team’s volunteer parent Board of Directors, and work with the Board to plan racing schedules and manage equipment.
JOB TASKS
- Contribute to ongoing program development and implementation to instruct and facilitate the development of 8th through 12th grade students in the competitive sport of rowing. Manage team captains and coxswains. Work with the rowing program to ensure team cohesiveness.
- Develop, coordinate, and supervise weekly water practices at Bladensburg Waterfront Park and land workouts
- Oversee the team’s participation in 2-3 regattas each season.
- Model and maintain a high level of integrity, sportsmanship, and inclusion as well as positive performance for all Blair Crew rowers. Encourage continual improvement and confidence with firm grounding in technical skill and establish requisite fitness level to compete with area teams at all levels.
- Maintain adequate safety standards as well as boats and all other equipment used for the program. Consult and provide guidance to the Board on rental, repair or purchase of additional equipment, as needed.
- Consult and assist in the planning, recruiting, and fundraising efforts of the program by attending Board meetings, recruiting and parent meetings, and other team-related events throughout the year.
- Communicate regularly with the Board on establishing goals and directions for the operation and development of a successful program during monthly evening Board meetings.
- Other tasks as agreed to from time to time with the Board.
Below is the time commitment, with approximate dates, weather permitting:
Spring Season: Late February through mid-May, 5 days/week: after-school water practice M-W-F 4:30-7:00 pm, after-school land practices T 3:30-5:00 pm, and Sa water practice 9 am-12 pm; 2-3 regattas; Spring Break camp (mornings or afternoons).
Novice Camp: Late August, 1 week, including four three-hour practices.
Fall Season: 1st week of September through 2nd week of November, 5 days/week: after-school water practice M-W-F 4:30-7:00 pm, after-school land practices T 3:30-5:00 pm, and Saturday water practice 9 am-12 pm; and 2-3 regattas.
Winter Season: Last week of November to late February, 5 days/week, 1.5-hour land practices after-school, and Erg Sprints indoor competition.
