Great day for racing yesterday down in Georgetown! Blair Crew had three boats entered in the 2.8 mile head race. Also Coach Jacob raced in a pair for UMD and Coach Eva raced in a double!
In the morning, our Varsity girls raced in the youth 8 category against a strong field of local and national crews. With a respectable time of 18:06, the boat missed beating Wilson’s first boat by half a second. Blair finished 17 of 23 boats. The race was dominated by the Sarasota Rowing Club and Thompson’s Boat Club, both clubs with serious junior rowing programs. Against the local high schools, our eight beat Churchill, Bishop O’Connell, Wilson 2nd boat, Bishop Ireton’s 2nd boat, a TBC boat and an Annapolis Junior Rowing Association boat.
In the afternoon, Blair had a boys youth four and a girls youth four entered. Again in these events the Sarasota and TBC teams dominated. The boys came in 12 of 19 with a time of 18:05.4. The wind had picked up by the time the fours raced and they faced a stiff head wind for the second half of the race. Despite the wind, our boys bettered their last years race time by 1 minute and 18 seconds! They beat Wilson, Gunston, OConnell, a second Walter Johnson boat, a third DeMatha boat and Churchill. The girls four placed 10 of 14 beating Churchill, Gunston, and two Notre Dame boats. Their time was 20:16.4. This race was especially dominated by the Junior crew programs of TBC, Sarasota and Annapolis Junior Rowing Association. The only local high schools that beat Blair were Walter Johnson and Bishop OConnell.
Well done Blair!
